portraits

Most of these were done quite quickly at a portrait class – in about 2 hours or so. The beauty of pastel is that you can move fast – you don’t have to wait for layers to dry – and that keeps it looking fresh. One or two were done in minutes in pencil or charcoal ( Caitlin, Madeleine). There are a couple of oil portraits in this group that took a little longer (Nathan, Tabatha), and the portrait of David Richmond took months of research and sittings, in order to satisfy the RCOG, and the study itself incorporated many layers, glazes and so on.
